I’ve been reading Margaret Atwood since the summer of 1987, when I was just about to leave England for a year to teach at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and I wanted to read some recent North American literature. I’ve read many, but not all, of her novels and nonfiction works, and her gaze and insight into human relationships is as incisive as it gets, sometimes terrifyingly so.
