Hindu Monk and Swami To Give Lecture Friday

1 min read

His Holiness Bhakti Bhavana Vishnu Maharaj, a Hindu monk and swami of the Gaudiya Vaishnava lineage, will give a lecture titled “Gaudiya Vaishnavism: The Spiritual Science of Vedic India” on Friday, Feb. 25, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Harvard Hall 201.

The event is sponsored by the Harvard Extension School Chaitanya Vaishnava Society, a student group promoting awareness of Hindu culture, as part of a 1999-2000 film and lecture series titled “The Spiritual Culture of Vedic India.”

Last fall the group presented three programs, including a lecture by another Hindu swami and a concert of Indian devotional music.

The Chaitanya Vaishnava Society was founded last year in an effort to provide a forum for presenting to the Harvard community the rich history and culture of Vedic India.

Later this spring, during the week of April 8-16, the group will host a Hindu priest who will give a seminar titled “Gaudiya Vaishnavism: Philosophy and Practice,” which will include demonstrations of Hindu devotional rituals and a traditional Vedic fire ceremony.
