Cultural Rhythms Festival Feb. 26

The Harvard Foundation for Intercultural & Race Relations will present its annual Cultural Rhythms Festival on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 3 p.m. in Sanders Theatre and the Science Center.

Matt Damon will be honored as Cultural Artist of the Year at the 15th annual festival. Damon will be presented with the Harvard Foundation award for his “Outstanding Contributions to the Performing Arts.””We are delighted to welcome Matt Damon back to Harvard to receive Harvard Foundation’s Artist of the Year Award,” said President Neil L. Rudenstine. “As a native of Cambridge, and a former student of both Harvard College and Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, he is an honored member of the Harvard-Cambridge family, and we are proud of his achievements.”The festival will include performances by 39 student groups and a presentation of culinary samplings from cultures around the world. Lottery Open for Harvard Conference on Internet & Society

The Third International Harvard Conference on Internet & Society, to be held May 31-June 2, will explore the impact and implications of the Internet in transforming industry, government, and individual lives.

Harvard University will make 100 registration spaces available through a lottery to current Harvard faculty, students, and staff with a valid Harvard ID. Those selected from the lottery will have full access to the main conference, including meals and materials, for a fee of $25. The lottery form is available online at http://www.is2k.harvard.edu. The deadline to enter is Friday, March 17. Winners will be notified by e-mail on Wednesday, March 22.

Tax Seminar for Foreign Students and Scholars

The Harvard International Office will hold a tax seminar for foreign students and scholars on Tuesday, Feb. 29 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Aldrich Hall, Room 209, at the Harvard Business School. This seminar is open to all members of the Harvard community.

Discussions in Washington on Sudan’s Civil War

The Belfer Center’s World Peace Foundation (WPF) Program on Intrastate Conflict, Conflict Prevention, and Conflict Resolution will hold a full-day meeting in Washington, D.C., on March 8, to discuss ways to bring peace to the civil war-torn Sudan, and to examine policy options toward the Sudan for the U.S. government. The meeting will be held at the Kennedy School’s Washington office.

Speakers and participants include high-ranking officials from the Departments of State and Defense, the National Security Council, and the Central Intelligence Agency, from the United Nations, and from the many nongovernmental, church, and relief organizations active in helping the peoples of the Sudan. Robert I. Rotberg, director of the WPF Program, will chair the meeting.

HMS Offers Summer Research Grants in Medical Ethics

The Harvard Medical School’s Division of Medical Ethics is offering summer research grants to Harvard Medical School students interested in original independent research in medical ethics. The program will provide financial support, mentoring, and an advanced seminar in medical and research ethics.
