Erasmus Prize 2011 awarded to Joan Busquets
The Praemium Erasmianum Foundation has awarded the Erasmus Prize 2011 to Joan Busquets, architect and expert in urban development: ‘arquitecte urbanista’ (Barcelona, Spain).
The thematic of the Erasmus Prize 2011 is ‘the design of public space in the city’. The prize is awarded to Joan Busquets in appreciation of his impressive and multifaceted oeuvre in the field of city planning. In his work Busquets is guided by a social agenda. Historical analysis of the use of urban space forms the starting point for his thinking on the future of man, who will be living and working in an ever more densely populated environment. Busquets works both in the field of project planning and execution, and involves in his work students and colleagues from different disciplines.
Busquets’ designs include new urban centers, reconstruction of old and neglected urban areas, and the development of infrastructure (Barcelona, Toledo, Aleppo).
