Grab a seat, it’s ‘The Chair Revue’

Forget Shakespeare in the park. Try performances in the Yard.

Every Tuesday and Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., members of the Harvard community will stage lunchtime shows outside of Lehman Hall and Dudley House. Dubbed “The Chair Revue” these hour-long theatrical and music events are intended to bring the Harvard community together around the arts.

“The chairs in the Yard have inspired conversations, community and life,” said Allegra Libonati, an artistic associate at the American Repertory Theater, who is curating “The Chair Revue.” “Now, we’re spinning off that impulse to bring people together for an artistic event.”

In building anticipation for “The Chair Revue,” the first performance — on Tuesday (Sept. 7) — is a surprise.

“It’s going to be a very big, splashy opening,” she said. (No, it’s not “The Donkey Show.”)

Future performances will include faculty and student performances — picture anything from classic theater to avant garde dance to a capella groups. The series will run through Oct. 15.

“So many people are stuck in their own modules on campus,” Libonati said. “They don’t realize the things that are happening on campus. This is a way to get them out of that.”

Libonati is in the process of soliciting additional performers.
