Harvard Radcliffe Institute announces 2022–23 exploratory seminars

Harvard Radcliffe Institute has awarded its 2022–2023 Exploratory Seminars. Emerging from multiple disciplines and applying bold cross-disciplinary perspectives, the awardees — all Harvard faculty members or Harvard Radcliffe Institute fellows — will hold intensive seminars over the course of the year to explore novel approaches to pressing issues using interdisciplinary research and inquiry. Since the program’s inception, Radcliffe Exploratory Seminars have supported hundreds of scholars, practitioners, and artists who reimagine the boundaries of knowledge and learning — and push the thresholds of social innovation. Here is a sampling of the 21 seminars funded for the 2022–2023 academic year: 

• Dark Sectors of the Milky Way: Revealing the Hidden Galaxy, led by Arjun Dey, Harvard Radcliffe Institute, and Douglas P. Finkbeiner, Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences
• Re-envisioning the Future of BMI Surveillance: Critical Reflection on a Contested Tactic of the “War on Obesity,” led by S. Bryn Austin, Harvard Chan School, and Tracy K. Richmond, Harvard Medical School/Boston Children’s Hospital
• Should Daylight Saving Time Be Eliminated or Made Permanent? Another Clash between Scientific Evidence and Politics, led by Elizabeth B. Klerman, Harvard Medical School, and Charles A. Czeisler, Harvard Medical School
• Understanding and Responding to 2020–2022 Efforts Targeting Antiracism and “CRT” in K–12 Schools, led by Mica Pollock, Harvard Radcliffe Institute
• Sex in Context: Rethinking Sex as a Biological Variable from Research to Policy, led by Sarah S. Richardson, Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and Madeleine Pape, University of Lausanne
