Harvard runs for Cambridge April 1

2 min read

Harvard University has sponsored more than 200 members of its Harvard on the Move wellness program to participate in the Cambridge City Walk/Run on April 1 and support athletics programs and college scholarships for Cambridge youth.

The University is encouraging other campus walkers and runners to register online for the event at http://www.cambridgecityrun.com/ or in person on race day.

The Fresh Pond walk and run is the first public race for Harvard on the Move (HotM) participants.  Created to promote wellness through walking and running, HotM is open to both campus and community and hosts weekly walks and runs around the Charles River.

“Part of the philosophy of Harvard on the Move is to build community, but we also want to get people outside and moving their bodies,” said Jeanne Mahon, Harvard’s director of the Center for Wellness. “This event is important because people have something to work up to while supporting young athletes in Cambridge.”

“This is another great example of a Harvard-Cambridge partnership,” said Paul Ryder, head of the Recreation Division for the City of Cambridge. “This event provides Harvard students with a great fitness opportunity while supporting Cambridge high school athletes.”

Harvard also sponsors campus runners at the Honan 5K race in Allston. Race sponsorship is just one example of the ways Harvard and its host communities come together to improve quality of life and the student experience.
