Professor Barry Bloom named AAAS Fellow
Barry R. Bloom, Harvard University Distinguished Service Professor and Joan L. and Julius H. Jacobson Professor of Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH), is among 15 Harvard faculty members named fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) for 2011.
Bloom, who served as dean of the HSPH faculty from 1998 to 2008, was chosen for his many contributions to and leadership in the areas of infectious diseases, vaccines, and global health. A leading scientist and former consultant to the White House, Bloom continues to pursue an active interest in bench science as the principal investigator of a laboratory researching the immune response to tuberculosis, a disease that claims more than two million lives each year.
